📸 Posing Guide Summary:
Lift & Gaze Pose – A graceful, slightly lifted pose that creates a romantic eye-to-eye connection.

Silhouette Pose – Capturing a couple walking hand in hand through an archway, creating a cinematic, black-and-white-ready shot.
Seated Pose on Stairs – Instead of sitting side by side, having the woman sit between the man’s legs on a lower step creates a more intimate and cozy moment.
These six simple poses are perfect for couples who want to feel comfortable in front of the camera while capturing genuine and natural moments.
Now, let’s dive into the best locations in the Gothic Quarter for your Barcelona couple photoshoot! 📍✨
📍 Stop 1: Carrer del Dr. Joaquim Pou – The Perfect Cathedral View
💡 Pro Tip: Arrive early in the morning to avoid crowds and get that magical golden hour light!
The picture is taken from the top of the street Carrer del Dr. Joaquim Pou, coming of from La Vía Layetana, a large street deviding the Gothic Quarter and el Born.
📍 Stop 2: In Front of the Cathedral – A architectural Masterpiece
Next, head directly in front of Barcelona’s Cathedral to capture its Romanesque and Gothic beauty from different angles. The square offers a gorgeous perspective of the cathedral, showcasing the incredible stonework, towering spires, and detailed sculptures.
This is a great spot for both wide shots to capture the grandeur of the cathedral and close-up intimate moments framed by the stunning architecture.
The picture is taken directly in front of the Cathedral at the stairs. It’s at the square Pla de la Seu, You can get a taxi to drop you off at the Vía Layetana and walk 50 m to it.
📍 Stop 3: El Pont del Bisbe – The Iconic Gothic Bridge
✨ Why it’s perfect for photos:
• The ornate stone design adds a medieval romance to your pictures.
• In the morning, sunlight filters through the bridge, creating dramatic shadows and depth.
The pont del Bisbe is the the street with the same name, Carrer del Bisbe. Bisbe means Bishop. This street connects the Pla de la Seu and the Plaça de Sant Jaume.
📍 Stop 4: Plaza de San Felipe Neri – History & Romance in One Spot
One of the most romantic yet deeply historic squares in Barcelona is Plaza de San Felipe Neri. This quiet, intimate spot is lined with beautiful old buildings, a small fountain, and arched doorways.
🗣️ Captivating fact: This square holds historical scars from the Spanish Civil War—marks from bombings are still visible on the church walls. (You can see them in the images,) This location was also featured in the movie Perfume: The Story of a Murderer.
For couples, this is the perfect place for a quiet, emotional moment—perhaps sitting together by the fountain or standing under the beautiful arches.
💡 The most important detail? Keep the movement natural—the woman shouldn’t lift her leg too high, and instead of looking at the camera, focusing on each other makes the moment feel more genuine. Whether it’s a soft gaze, a forehead touch, or a gentle kiss, this pose always results in a stunningly romantic photo.
It can be tough to find this square since the street leading to it can be very narrow. Best use Google Maps and enter the square through the street Carrer de Sant Sever.
📍 Stop 5: The Jewish Quarter & Plaza de Sant Jaume
Continuing through the Jewish Quarter, the route leads to Plaza de Sant Jaume, home to the Ayuntamiento de Barcelona (Barcelona City Hall). This plaza blends historic and political significance, offering a majestic backdrop with grand facades.
💡 Hidden Gem: The side entrance of City Hall has a stunning stone wall and medieval door, perfect for a timeless, elegant portrait.
Creative Poses Between the Doorway – Framing Your Love
A doorway isn’t just an entrance—it’s a perfect natural frame for couple photos, offering endless possibilities for creative and intimate shots. Here are some easy yet stunning posing ideas to try:
Lean Against the Doorframe – Each person can take one side, casually leaning back for a relaxed yet stylish look.
Reach Out to Each Other – If the doorway is long, extend your hands toward each other, letting your fingertips gently touch in the middle for a delicate, intimate moment.
Playful Knock – One person can lightly knock on the door while the other peeks over, adding a fun and interactive feel.
Look Over the Edge – A great way to create depth—one person peeks around the doorframe while the other reaches toward them.
Framed Forehead Touch or Kiss – Use the door as a romantic frame, stepping closer together for a soft forehead touch or a kiss.
With door arches, the possibilities are endless. Let your creativity flow, use the space naturally, and experiment with fun, playful, or romantic movements to create a truly unique shot!
If you are in front of the Barcelona City Hall, walk into the street to the left of it called Carrer de la Ciutat. There you will find the door in the picture.
📍 Stop 6: Temple d’August – Ancient Roman Columns
A few meters away, you’ll find the Temple d’August, a hidden gem inside a small courtyard. The Temple of Augustus is a remarkable historical site hidden in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter. Built over 2,000 years ago, it was originally a Roman temple dedicated to Emperor Augustus. Today, only four towering Corinthian columns remain, tucked inside a medieval courtyard, offering a rare glimpse into Barcelona’s ancient past.
What makes this place so special is its blend of history and architecture—standing between these massive columns feels like stepping back in time. It’s a quiet, almost secret spot in the heart of the city, making it perfect for a romantic and intimate photoshoot, where the soft lighting and ancient stone textures create a unique and timeless atmosphere.
The natural lighting inside the courtyard provides a soft and dreamy atmosphere, perfect for artistic couple shots.
💡 Lighting Tip for the Temple of Augustus – Since this courtyard is lit from above, shadows can form under the eyes, creating an effect known as “panda eyes.” To avoid this, try looking slightly upward toward the light source instead of straight ahead. This helps evenly illuminate your faces, bringing out natural expressions and avoiding harsh shadows. If you’re posing together, lift your heads gently in the same direction—this creates a soft, flattering light and a beautifully harmonious shot.
The Temple of Agustus is a bit hard to find. You need to walk from Plaça de Sant Jaume and walk past the famous sandwhich shop Conesa Entrepans. Very close to it there is my favourite ice cream shop Gelaaati Di Marco. Having an ice cream can lighten the mood of the grumpiest partner during a session :-)
📍 Stop 7: Archive of the Crown of Aragon – A Hidden Courtyard
The Archive of the Crown of Aragon is a stunning courtyard, offering a mix of history, elegance, and natural beauty. What makes this place truly special is the presence of wine leaves and even grapes, depending on the season, adding a touch of romantic greenery to the ancient stone architecture.
💡 Photography Tip: The lighting here is similar to the Temple of Augustus, with sunlight filtering from above, so be mindful of shadows on the face. Looking slightly upward or toward the light will create a softer, more even illumination.
🚨 Important to Know:
• After rain, the upper balcony is often closed due to the slippery marble floor.
• You can still explore the courtyard and capture its beauty, but avoid leaning too close over the balcony railing, as the guard will kindly remind you to step back.
With its mix of stone walls, lush greenery, and golden lighting, this spot is perfect for elegant and timeless couple photos—a true hidden gem in Barcelona!
📍 Stop 8: Plaza del Rey – A Royal Finish
The final stop is Plaza del Rey, a majestic square with an impressive stone staircase, medieval balconies, and an intimate ambiance. This location is ideal for dramatic couple portraits, capturing both the romance and history of Barcelona.
💡 Why it’s the perfect final stop:
Fewer tourists, allowing for intimate and uninterrupted shots
Historic charm with stone walls and royal staircases
The perfect place to end with a grand kiss or embrace 💖
This square is very close to the metro station Jaume I and has an connection to the Archive of the Crown of Aragon.
